American government has changed a lot since its start in 1776. These changes have been brought up due to people's ideas and protest. To get there ideas publicized people who share the same interests form pressure groups. Pressure groups can help to get a law passed or changed since there are a large number of people wanting the same thing.
             There are many types of pressure groups in the U.S. They are based on all different sorts of ideas ranging from gun control, and environmental protection, to labor, and agriculture laws. The people in these groups are also widely varied. Sometimes they are affected by a law that they are trying to change, such as a handicapped person. This person would want more rights for disabled peopled and would be involved in a group for the handicapped rights. Most people are in a particular group because of the way they feel about an issue. A person may also be involved in more than one pressure group. The groups may intertwine with each other, or they may have slightly contrasting views. Often times there are millions of people involved in a pressure group. These groups usually have the greatest impact.
             Pressure groups concerning economics usually have the greatest number of followers and generally produce the greatest impact upon the government. Business groups, labor groups, agriculture groups, and professional groups all fall into this category. Business groups have always played a role in the formation of current laws.
             Today they are still very active, having hundreds of groups across the nation. Of these groups the two largest are the National Association of Manufactures and the Chamber of Commerce.
