Robinson

Daniel Defoe is one of the great and well-known writers of English Literature who lived between 1660 and 1731 when the historical changes and cultural developments took place in that period. "Robinson Crusoe" which is first published in 1719, is one of his most important and significant novels that is known by most people all around the world. It is an interesting and impressive story that tells the wild life of a man on a deserted island. This man is Robinson, the main character of the story, he is passionately fancying to travel through seas as a sailor and to see different places and also to meet and know new people all around the world. When the story begins, he is only 18 years old and he always tells this inevitable ambition to his parents but they, especially his father does not let him to be a simple sailor in order not to risk his life in a possible shipwreck. At first, Robinson seems to accept this decision but his desire for sea grows day by day and one day, without! informing his parents, he sets on a voyage with a captain and this voyage is the beginning of a new life for him. Firstly, there is a sudden shipwreck and he survives but in his second voyage, although he survives on the one hand he becomes a sale surviv

Friday by explaining the one of the significant events of the story in which Robinson discovers that the island is not completely deserted. In fact, Robinson's father steadfastly ignores his request for sailing and also tells to Robinson that if he does not listen to him and go on voyage as a sailor, this will be a sin and God will bless him. Hence, Friday becomes the survivor of survivor in this story. In this essay, I will try to inform you about the big intimacy between Robinson and Friday by making connections with the events, occasions and important themes of the unusual story of "Robinson Crusoe". That was why his disappointment was so severe when a second ship wrecked upon his island's shore, produced no survivors. Hence, both of them, Robinson and Friday can take position on both sides of the demarcation line between the two terms: civilised and primitive. Maybe, he seems us as the only survivor of this shipwreck but by saving Friday's life, he becomes a hero for him. Robinson's deep pain and sorrow obviously shows Friday's importance and greatness for him. However, in fact, there is only one person who makes him to feel better; Friday. Whatever the status of "my own excepted" whether Robinson talks to himself or disqualifies the parrot- Friday's voice is now appropriated for island life. 211) On the other hand, if Friday has European features and looks different from Negroes or other Indians and, also, abandons his cannibalistic nature and displays moral integrity, the whole basis upon which the civilised-primitive dichotomy rests, and becomes doubtful. Perhaps, it may be said that, Friday is the only absolute meaning of life for Robinson Crusoe. Robinson teaches Friday to talk and write in English, and also to be a good Christian.
