Drug testing athletes

A Proposal for Steroid Testing of Community College Athletes To be the best in America today is often to some people the only thing thatmatters. This is especially true in the world of sports where big money and big egos areconstantly waging battle to show who is the best and the biggest. Often times howeverthere are those athletes who want to take things a step further, and that means steroids. Itis for this reason that we believe that in the spirit of fair competition, community collegeathletes should be tested for performance enhancing drugs deemed illegal by the NationalCollegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). In this day and age, athletes have become some of the most respected and soughtafter members of our society. Salaries of professional athletes are constantly skyrocketingto new levels, while the growing fan base continues to support it. Why have sportsbecome so intriguing to our society? Perhaps it is the fact that athletes are bigger, stronger, and faster than ever before. They can perform at a much more competitive leveland achieve previously unattainable goals. Some of this can be contributed to theevolution of man and sports, but many concede that performance enhancing drugs seem to

First hand accounts have been given to show the realities of these drugsin sports today. When an athlete using drugs like steroids, he/she is given an extratool in defeating a challenger. He waslucky in that most people are dead and don’t get the chance at a surgery. The urine, which was not the athletes being tested, was cold because it had beenin a refrigerator. A cosmetically undetectable snip of hair is easilycollected without causing embarrassment. The increase of testosteronein a woman’s body causes masculinization. This testing is extremely controversial because at the beginning ofany NCAA athlete's career they sign a paper stating that they will not use any performanceenhancing drugs during any NCAA sanctioned event. Temporary abstention won't beatthis test. Steroids were first introduced in the 1930s by scientists who discovered thatanabolic steroids had the ability to help men who could not produce enough testosteroneon their own to produce more. World famous actor and bodybuilder ArnoldSchwartzenegger underwent quadruple bypass surgery to his heart this past year. There is no mandatory drug testing policy for communitycollege athletes, and each university and/or school district is empowered to take action. A test strip is based on the principle ofthe highly specific immunological reactions that are used for the analysis of human LgG inbiological fluids. When and where these random drug tests will pop-up isanyone's best guess. Hair testing cannot be evaded as in urinalysis since the drug residue remainspermanently entrapped in the hair.
