These songs were written and played in clubs for pop songs and dances. Fletcher Henderson was also the first artist to perform and record orchestral jazz. Fletcher Henderson started his career in 1923. He gathered together from the small groups of quintets and sextets a growing number of notable New York-based players and formed a full orchestra. By the late 1920s, Henderson could conduct a 13 to 14 piece orchestral band. He was also accompanied by famous saxophonist Don Redman.
