A Choice of Your Own
The last twenty-five years, shows that abortion is joining race and war as the most debatable subjects in the United States and Canada (Risks and Realities of Early Childbearing Worldwide). Abortion is a discussion of human interaction where individuals face moral, social, and medical dilemmas that can change a person’s life. There are many different views toward abortion, but the two fine distinctions are “pro-choice” and “pro-life.” A pro-choice person feels that the decision to abort a pregnancy is that of the mother’s and the government does not have the right to interfere. A pro-life person holds that, from the moment of conception, the embryo or fetus is alive, it is a person, and an individual has no right to abort this life (Schwartz 3). It is my belief that despite what the opposition says, each woman has the right to decide if she wants to abort an unwanted pregnancy or bring a child in this world. In 1973, the Roe vs. Wade decision proves women’s rights by recognizing abortion as a fundamental constitution right, making it legal in all states. Today, the law permits abortion at the request of the woman without any restrictions in the first trimester and some restrictions in the second trimes . . .
The United States Supreme Court argues 2 in Roe vs. Life Itself: Abortion in the American Mind. If the mother gives birth to the baby, she may be unable to bear the psychological trauma of the event and allowing her to have an abortion would prevent her from that grief. Thus, I am pro-choice person that strongly feels that it is imperative that all women be given a choice on the issue of abortion, possibly the most difficult decision one makes in a lifetime. Abortion itself is a tough choice, but I feel that the decision should be a personal one, without interference of government or special interest groups. A teenager goes through multiple changes through adolescence and adulthood that does not make sense to the youngster, having the choice of having a baby or an abortion makes a life altering situation a bit easier. As a result, a future career is impossible when a girl has a baby too young, meaning that there is a big possibility of the other and baby living in poverty (Risks and Realities of Early Childbearing Worldwide). Women have abortions for multiple reasons. This is turning our backs on the technology that we have, and it devalues women as independent human beings.
