His reputation is crushed in his place of work with his age, new management has taken over and Willy is no longer seen as a asset to the company. This intersects the idea of Ben's short life. Willy now sees himself as worthless in his old age and seems to think that an early death, like Ben's would have benefited him better than what he has now.
             Miller uses the image of money in several ways. The first is that it is a misfortune, a goal Willy never manages to attain. The second is to the future. Willy's decision to commit suicide is based upon the notion that he will accumulate a good sum of money for his boys so they will not be failures like him.
