standing in her shadow
She walked through the hallways of school,self-concious of her appearance as always. She thought she could feel the kids staring at her, laughing inside. Brigid was a beautiful 15 year old girl, 5'8", brown hair, brown eyes. Only one thing was wrong, the only thing that made her uneasy the most, her weight. She wasn't fat but she wasn't as "skinny" as she thought she should be. Brigid would constantly compare herself to other girls at school, in the mall, and everywhere else she went. Her friends would repeatedly tell her how pretty she was and that she looked fine the way she was, but she could never convience herself of what they were saying. Although the occasional remarks from her mother like "that shirt makes you look fat" and "do you realy want to go out looking like that?" didn't help much either. Brigid sat down in her last period math class and waited for the teacher to come in. Other kids in the class were making there way into class slowly Her mind seemed to wander and she found herself thinking about him, Jared. He was the perfect guy, tall, blonde hair, blue eyes, kind of built, but not to much muscle. Wouldn't it be great to go out with him she thought, but she knew she didn't stand a chance with someone l . . .
" She hung up the phone and vowed not to talk to Juliet in school the next day or any other day until she realized what a big mistake she had made and that it wasn't worth losing a friend over a guy. "Jared is in the hospital in critical condition, but Juliet didn't, she didn't, she didn't make it, the impact of the crash killed her instantly. Her dad had left when she was five, maybe thatwas partically to blame. "Jared called me last night and he was asking about you" she said. "Well, Jared asked me out and I wanted to know if it would be alright with you if I said yes?" "Do what ever the hell you want, just don't talk to me anymore!" she said and she stormed out of the bathroom. Then out of the corner of her eye Brigid saw Jared making his way over to their table. Usually Brigid was a chatter box on the way home, telling Juliet all the things that had happened to her that day, but today she just stared blankly out the window thinking of nothing but Jared. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ **Bibliography** . Brigid came up with all sorts of ideas on how to make herself noticed and what she could do to strike up a conversation with Jared. Th next day went by slowly and by the time math class came she felt sick. She and Juliet lived next door to each other, so they got off the bus and walked home together. "Um, no" she said and he sat down next to her, facing me. The next day she found herself once again in last period math class dreaming about Jared. "What do you want?" she said in a very annoyed voice. Brigid couldn't count the number of times she cried to Juliet on the phone, telling h! er her inner most feelings.
