shelby steele
2.Shelby Steele’s piece is full of powerful comments, thoughts, and criticisms. After reading it, I tried to view the world without the “blinders” that were put on me. She goes on to speak of the innocence she sought in a man’s face. I had no clue what she was implying until I fully read it and thought of it from her stance. She spoke of the seeing as a form of power that is hidden and can be revealed through the way someone looks at someone. She says, the man she saw indicated no signs of being a racist, but she felt . . .
I agreed with her point when she said she there is no reason for a white man to hate anyone of color because there is no reason for it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ **Bibliography** . I believe Steele and Daly have the same notion of power to a certain extent. She feels that people other than their own are immediately labeled in a certain manner because of their sex and color. Steele and Daly took positive views to helping the feminist’s cause in overcoming the male sexist society. This in essence, is telling the reader that women must fight the aggressor and give the “self” the hope of overcoming the oppression. I believe Daly feels it is much more difficult to overcome the hardship women are enduring since it has begun from the beginning of time. This is rather sad being that we are in a sophisticated day and age full of rocky histories. Looking at it from a woman’s view, she has the right to express her feelings, why? Because everyday she is being oppressed by the dominance of men. She feels the men of society view everyone below them , in particular the white working class. This is somewhat similar to McIntosh’s view of racism. she was a victim cause she was being looked at. This is not a new temper directed toward men. Steele on the other hand, feels that women and blacks have to find a way to handle white society’s presumption of racial innocence.
