Birmingham was considered to be the most segregated place in the United States. King encouraged members of the community toboycott the city buses. Police armed with clubsand dogs attacked the protesters. He also encouraged Congress to pass the Civil Rights billat this speech. It was because of his public speakingand his use of non-violence that he won the Nobel Peace Prize. King andother members of the community formed the Montgomery Improvement Associationduring this time. His father was also a role model in his life. (wbe) When Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to some white passengers and wasarrested, it prompted King into action. Martin Luther King led a protest in Birmingham Alabama and was arrested.
