euthanasia

Euthanasia is a method used in the ending of the life of someone who is in pain and dying. The word "euthanasia" means "a good death". It is referring to the manner in which one dies and of quickening the death process. Some consider it to be unethical , others see it as an appropriate and useful practice. Euthanasia is a practice used all around the world legal or not despite different beliefs.
The largest opponents of euthanasia are the christan organizations. Their belief is that it is god's decision only.
There are many people who say that the method is unjust, unethical , and not a decision to be made by that of a human. Othes agree that it is proper, ethical and for better of a person in pain and suffering.
There are two types of euthanasia, passive and active. Passive euthanasia is a simple yes or no question asked by doctors of whether to pull the plug or not.
In 1975 Karen ann Quinlan was in a coma after suffering a respiratory arrest. Her family undertook a legal battle to prove that she would not have wanted her life sustained by machines with no hope to recover. They eventually won and had her disconnected, whereupon she died.
Another case was in 1990, a young women fell into an irreversible coma after a carr accident, her parents fought and won the legal right to remove her feeding tube and allow their daughter to die.
Active euthanasia may be blatant killing or more deliberate action to end the life of a dying patient. In the story "Of Mice And Men", the question of euthanasia does not relate to a terminal illness but a person who is mentally challenged and considered to be less of a person or one with less than adequate quality of life. Some people would argue that this was an extreme way to handle the problem, others would say it was right because Lennie was only suffering and would suffer more if he was punished, hence it would be deemed a "mercy killing"....
