euthanasia
Euthanasia is a method used in the ending of the life of someone who is in pain and dying. The word "euthanasia" means "a good death". It is referring to the manner in which one dies and of quickening the death process. Some consider it to be unethical , others see it as an appropriate and useful practice. Euthanasia is a practice used all around the world legal or not despite different beliefs. The largest opponents of euthanasia are the christan organizations. Their belief is that it is god's decision only. There are many people who say that the method is unjust, unethical , and not a decision to be made by that of a human. Othes agree that it is proper, ethical and for better of a person in pain and suffering. There are two types of euthanasia, passive and active. Passive euthanasia is a simple yes or no question asked by doctors of whether to pull the plug or not.In 1975 Karen ann Quinlan was in a coma after suffering a respiratory arrest. Her family undertook a legal battle to prove that she would not have wanted her life sustained by machines with no hope to recover. They eventually won and had her disconnected, whereupon she died.Another case was in 1990, a young women fell into an irreversible coma after a car
S legislature as it relates to physician assisted suicides and living wills. Clearly the outcome of the Latimer case proves this. The murder was quick and painless and was better than years of solitude in an institution. The choice could be compared to other personal issues such as abortion. Active euthanasia may be blatant killing or more deliberate action to end the life of a dying patient. The right to control our bodies and lives is currently being fought in the U. He called the authorities after it was over willing to take consequences of those actions. Some might argue that the dying individual regians dignity and respect in this difficult right to die issue. The book compares Lennies mental illness to that of a suffering dog. This would adress the issue of pain control and the consequences of loss of cognitve functions and ability to make rational judgements. Legal euthanasia could become the final control that a dying patient has over their life. Religious organizations and opions would be respected by their non-involvement in active euthanasia. Our ability to sustain the lives through medical advances of the terminally ill and permanently unconscious has increased the issue of euthanasia even more than ever. In the story "Of Mice And Men", the question of euthanasia does not relate to a terminal illness but a person who is mentally challenged and considered to be less of a person or one with less than adequate quality of life. The question remains, at what point is it reasonable to terminate a life that is suffering from an incurable disease ot one where death is inevitable? Who are we to play God? ------------------------------------------------------------------------**Bibliography**.
