Father of the Techno-Thriller
Michael Crichton is a well-educated best-selling author. All together he went to Harvard for eight years. He has taught himself a great deal of knowledge just by traveling to exotic places, doing research for a book, or by simply getting into a hobby or interest. He has written books, directed films, owned his own software company, won many awards, and traveled to most of the world. In short, Michael Crichton has led a fuller, different, and more knowledgeable life than most people.Michael Crichton was born in Chicago, IL in 1942. Michael played basketball for Roslyn High School and at 6' 7" in the tenth grade he was considered a giant. He was one of four children in a family that did a lot of traveling. When he had graduated from high school, he had already been to forty-eight states, Canada, Mexico, and five European countries; and by the time he started Med-School, he had been to all of Europe, North Africa, and North America. Since Michael had already made up his mind to quit med school at the end of the year, he decided to learn as much from the patients as he possibly could. Michael was angry with his father because he had messed up Michael's vacation time. Back in the early 1980s Michael owned a software company and produced the game Amazon. All his hard work has led him through a life full of experiences that are as wide ranging as the ocean is wide. Caution was needed in his writings because many of the professors and students in the Harvard Medical College were often quite critical of student writers because writing was considered to be a waste of time and talent to a doctor. The acclaim and Hollywood attention that The Andromeda Strain brought him helped him to gain respect and cooperat!ion from his teachers so that he could do research for his non-fiction work Five Patients. Ultimately, no field of medicine appealed to him. He has set himself very high goals and he achieved them through hard work and dedication. He realized that at such an early age, he had already accomplished all of his life goals. After a long while of trying to find his own way out of this depressed state, he made up his mind to visit a friend in Thailand, which is primarily Buddhist.
