More Dances

             There are those who believe that there should not be more school dances, than we already have scheduled. Some teens say "I have too much to do." Even though they might have a lot to do they always find time to go to a school dances. We need more school dances. There are three main reasons, that most anyone would agree on, why dances are so important for high-schoolers. Dances give teens an opportunity to socialize, they give young people a chance to practice responsibility, and dances benefit the schools.
             Ask any teen and they would most likely agree that their friends are the most vital aspect of their lives. Teenagers need to socialize, it helps to add variety to their lives. It also helps them with future relationships by teaching them how to deal with other people, different situations, personal problems, and personal emotions. A school dance is a very good format for this. At a dance a person meets and socializes with different people, learns how to communicate for example, how to say "No", to ask others to dance or to go out on a date, or to just talk. A teen learns to deal with rejection and acceptance.
             It is important for teens to get of the house and to be on their own periodically. This helps them to learn how to be more independent and responsible. Again, a dance is a good place for this. Teens are faced with decisions at dances and they have to make the choices alone. Dances are also a chance for teens to prove to their parents that they are responsible and trustworthy, by obeying rules and making good choices. A supervised school dance provides a place where teens can gather together without a lot of negative outside pressures, such as drugs, alcohol, sex or other more serious crimes. This makes it easier and safer for teens to show responsibility.
