Hinduism is the third largest religion in the world, following Christianity and Islam. Hinduism stands for the faith and the way of life of most people who live in India. It is unknown where Hinduism was started and by whom. The beliefs of the Hindu's is very different then that of Christian's. Hinduism is based on beliefs in things such as reincarnation, dharma and in three main gods.No one knows where Hinduism was started or who started it. Their oldest written documents, the Vedas, were first copied onto paper in 1000 B.C., they had however existed orally long before that time. Hinduism is thought to have originated from the Vedas. Hinduism has changed greatly since it was first practiced, there are now different sects, also known as denominations, and new beliefs have developed. The Veda was composed between 1200 BC and 500 BC, and is composed of three sections: The Rig-Veda: a collection of hymns that are dedicated to 33 different gods, especially Indri and Agni. Here I will discuss the different rituals. Brahma is the creator of life, Vishnu is the preserver of life and Shiva, or Siva, is the destroyer of life. During the ceremony, a sacred thread is placed across the boys body from the left shoulder to the right hip, once he has received this thread, he is allowed to recite a passage from the Veda and allowed to perform the rituals described in it. These three gods are all a part of Brahman the eternal Supreme Being. This bath is very important since Hindus must not eat or say any prayers before having a bath. So each caste is made up of a different level of society. Conception: In the early days of marriage, even before a child is conceived, the parents mediate on the kind of child they would like to have. Many are teachers and keepers of the religion because they are the priestly caste. In the caste system there are four levels and two groups that are apart from the castes. Both actions are acts of homage to the gods.
