Thesis: In the book Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell, a prediction of the real 1984 was made that showed a totalitarian government and slave like citizens. Eric Arthur Blair was born on 25 June 1903 in Motihari, Bengal, India (Oxford 700). The middle child of English parents and was noticed to have exceptional writing skills at a young age. At the age of thirteen he was offered two scholarships and chose the one to Eton. He attended from 1917 to 1921. After the scholarship he decided to join the Indian Imperial Police in Burma. When home on leave in 1927 he felt guilty for being part of an oppressive system and resigned (Oxford 275). When the novel was published in June of 1949. s name to George Orwell after the Orwell River in Suffolk, England and made money by tutoring and teaching at cheap private schools (Literature 251). This was considered a crime so he had to be extremely careful. Nearly everyone gave the book great reviews but their are always some negatives. One day in the tavern the telescreen announces that Oceania has won a critical military victory. As they look at the picture on the wall they notice that there is a telescreen behind it. After reading a good bit of it they fall asleep and when they awake the!y realize that they slept too long. To be vaporized it only takes an improper attitude towards Big Brother, facial expres!sions, talking during sleep, writing in a journal, etc. "Nineteen Eighty-Four; Orwell, George. He saw during the 1940's that communism was becoming a threat. Julia and Winston wonder if there are more people like them that hate Big Brother. Lenin, the Russian revolution, and communism.
