I had the privilege to take a trip to the Hawaiian
Islands this semester and it was truly a cultural
experience. As well as culture the ambiance of the society
and the traditions I was privileged to see were alone quiet
amazing. The greatest thrill was a performance that was
done a long time ago and is still done today. The ancient
Hawaiians have a tradition of a Luoa which contains hula
dancing flame throwing as well as great traditional music .
I was able to see this tradition that they carry on today in
the natural form that has been preserved for hundreds of
             years.
To tell you the truth I walked into my VIP seating and
was immediately not impressed with my seat. I did not like
how some seats you had to pay for and others were just

moving experience but the whole performance I would not go
to again because it was not that nice. It had language that
I could not understand and it had a family atmosphere which
kept the excitement to a minimum. Most of the people there
were old and not to energetic, I would rather been at a kids
recital. Personally it was not all it was built up to be.
In the old days if you knew how to hula dance or
perform in the Luoa then you were very prestigious. The
style that you danced or sang a song or played an instrument
is unique because in Hawaiian tradition songs and music have
only just started to be written down. A families history
was taught to the kids growing up weather they were male or
female it did not matter they each had something to learn
about the tradition. As well as the dancing and so forth an
ancient Luoa has a specific attire that is worn. During a
hula a grass skirt is worn by either sex it does not matter,
             and there is ...
