Abortion

             Abortion is a very sensitive subject that stirs up strong emotions. Everyone including myself, for specific reasons has their own view on this subject. My aunt's experience is the main reason for my view in which I think women should have a choice. In her late 40's and married with 2 children (the oldest being 22 years old) she found herself pregnant and 6 weeks into her pregnancy, lost her husband in a car accident. Stressed out with kids in college, bills to pay and no extra support, my aunt suffered a great deal of emotional distress. During her 10th week, she developed diabetes and high blood pressure therefore her pregnancy was considered high risk. An amniocentesis test was performed by the doctor who concluded that the baby had major deformities, so my aunt was faced with a decision to make to keep the baby, or have an abortion. After numerous sleepless nights, she made up her mind to abort the baby in order to save her life and spare her child facing intense pain and discomfort (due to its deformities). The day she did the abortion, tears ran down her eyes but knowing she made the right decision, she was relieved.
             Abortion is an extremely controversial issue and a very sensitive subject. People have many thoughts on abortion but the major views are pro-choice and pro-life. A pro-choicer would feel that the decision to abort a pregnancy is the mother's right, and no one should interfere with this right. A pro-lifer would say that from the moment of conception, the embryo or fetus is alive therefore abortion should be considered a form of murder. Murder is defined as a deliberate act of killing a person, while abortion is interrupting the growth of a fetus so it does not turn into a baby.
