The Science of Wave Energy

Wave Energy, a new energy source straight from the ocean. Waves come from wind, which is the production of solar energy. As long as the sun shines, waves will be created and energy could be obtained, 365 days a year. In order to obtain this energy from these waves, certain technologies need to be installed in Wave Energy plants either on the seashore or be floating offshore in the middle of the sea. Here are some devices used: Floating Devices usually placed on a floating platform or buoys are left to float in the middle of the sea. Popular models include the Salter Duck, the Nodding duck, the Clam, and the Archimedes Wave Swing. These devices generate electricity by the converting motion created by the rise and fall movement of the waves. The movement of each wave strokes a generator attached to the device and creates electricity. This is then transferred to shore through a submerged power cable. The most popular system used is the Oscillating Water Column or the OWC. This is installed either on shore to generate electricity once a wave hits the seashore or on a deep ocean site. It consists of a closed column, and a turbine. Once the wave hits the device, the in motion of the wave fills the column with water and pus

The water then travels through a Kaplan Turbine. The systems used to generate power might damage the marine life near the site. The power produced from them is steady, and consistent, and much more predictable. Although the cost to maintain the devices in these systems isn't high, the cost to manufacture and install might be. hes the air up into it, which passes the turbine. This decreases project risk and energy crisis. First of all, waves are available all throughout the year, almost all day, everyday. The devices used to generate energy from the waves don't take up too much space. It eventually spills into the reservoir, which is higher than sea level. 5 - 5 metres) than of the ones in the northern hemisphere (average 2 metres) in the summer. Wave energy technologies are used in countries like Scotland, Portugal, Norway, the U. For when waves travel from far out in the ocean to shore, energy loss is very little, possessing an enormous amount of power and energy in each wave. Onshore devices need special designs, which will cost more money than other coastal structures, for they need to have the ability to obtain energy from these huge waves, convert it into electricity, and withstand harsh weather like storms at the same time. This increases the pressure within the column. It is then compressed, heated, and the energy is sent through a cable to the electrical unit.
