Placido Domingo

Placido Domingo is a Spanish tenor. He was born in Madrid, Spain in 1941. Domingo learned the piano, learned how to sing, and conducted opera's in Mexico. He is known for having one of the best tenor voices of his generation. He has been to many opera house's around the world to perform different roles. In 1960 he sang in his first major role, that of Alfredo in the opera La traviata, by Italian composer Guiseppe Verdi. In 1961 Domingo appeared in the United States for the first time, with the Dallas Civic Opera.


In 1985 he won a Grammy Award for his album of popular Latin songs, Always in My Heart (Siempre en mi Corazon, 1983). After his first appearance in New York City, with the City Opera in 1966, he debuted in major opera houses around the world, including the Metropolitan (New York City) in 1968, La Scala (Milan, Italy) in 1969, and Covent Garden (London, England) in 1971. Over the years Domingo has released albums such as, Canciones De Amor, Night Of Zarzuela, Recitals, and O Paradis. The live album recording of the televised concert won a Grammy Award in 1991 and sold more than ten million copies. He has appeared frequently at the Salzburg Festival in Austria, and in 1992 he performed at the Bayreuth Festival in Germany, where he sang the title role in the opera Parsifal, by German composer Richard Wagner. ade many recordings of opera and popular music and has appeared in operas on television and in motion pictures. Although being busy with things like conducting music, Placido Domingo managed to publish his autobiography, My First Forty Years, in 1983. In 1981 he recorded Perhaps Love, an album of duets with popular American singer and songwriter John Denver. In 1990 in Rome he sang alongside Spanish opera star Jose Carreras and Italian opera star Luciano Pavarotti as one of the so-called Three Tenors.
