Stress Management
Taking control of stress management issues in an individual's personal life can be challenging but is essential in today's turbulent society. In my situation, my decision and execution to return to school was a life long dream that became reality. I am currently attending college at the ??????????????? and I am finding out on a continual basis that the amount of stress involved in returning to school can be overwhelming at times. Constantly adjusting good and bad stress levels and managing the situation at hand is necessary to attain my goal of receiving my Bachelor's degree. My education ranks as one of the top priorities in my life along with my family values. Adding to my stress-level I am working full time and tending to my family life being the best father that I can be. There is a lot for me to juggle in order to attain this goal, but with persistence and stress management techniques it will happen. Before attending this University I put a lot of pressure on my self to get a degree, for self-accomplishment reasons along with opening up options in my working environment. While attending school, reality set in both mentally and physically and I started to panic understanding that I had possibly bit off more than I could chew. Up to present day my plan of restructuring seems to be working giving myself positive results. He told me that stress was most likely affecting me physically as well. My previous schedule forced me to stay up all night at least one or two nights a week doing the work that was required for the classes I was attending. Restructuring my schedule helped me in this aspect, now I do my homework after my kids go to sleep no more than two hours a night until all work is accomplished. She was very upfront about the stressors associated with my decision. Since then, time has become a precious commodity. I virtually eliminated procrastination now that I have an allotted this time to accomplish my studies. While feeling better about the decisions I had made my body was still suffering from my previous very unstructured high stress level. Something had to give and I was not giving up on my dream. The first item I addressed was the restructuring of my schedule, writing down appointments and times I had allocated for certain activities forced me to look at the long range plan. Sleep deprivation can be a big stressor in this kind of environment; I was living as though I was a zombie. Along with the doctor's recommendations for reducing stress I researched the stress topic and came up with a few recommendations from other sources as well. My job allows me to take breaks for needed stress relief, which is channeled toward a physical exercise.
