Teen Pregnancy

             Do you enjoy sex? Are you ready to take a chance when you are only a teenager? Are you ready to be a parent? I didn't think so. Most of us are still in high school and enjoying our social lives. Can you believe that only 1/3 of teenage mothers receive their high school diplomas. Nearly 80 percent of unmarried teen mothers end up on welfare. The daughters of teen mothers are 22% more likely to become teen mothers themselves. The sons of teen mothers are 13% more likely to end up in prison. Condom use is not safe sex. They fail. 14-16% fail to prevent pregnancy during the first year of use and this rate is higher among teens. 1 in 10 teen girls in America becomes pregnant each year. In 1999, teens between 12 and 20 had the highest rates of Chlamydia. By the 12th grade, 70% of high school students have had sexual intercourse. 84% of all teen pregnancies are unintended. Only 19% of teen mothers married the father of their first child before or shortly after the child's bir!
             th. Women who have their first child in their teens earn half as much money in their lifetime as those who wait. Only 42% of all guys age 20 to 25 make enough money to take care of a family of three. At least 60% of all teenage marriages end in divorce in the first 5 years. You may have found the right person, but what if you haven't? If you have a baby now, your child is likely to finish high school before you do. Less than half of all women who have a child before 18 and only 39% of teen fathers finish high school. Even if your body is ready to make a baby, you may not emotionally ready to be a parent.
