Myself

             As I sit here in front of the Gateway 2000 that we have had for over three years, my mind
             draws a blank as to what I should write for my college essay. The ticking of the second
             hand on the clock that sits over the computer seems to be chanting the word "college" at
             me and I start to sweat. The blankness of the screen stares back at me waiting for me to
             write something on it, but I just don't know what to do with myself! Then, it hit me.
             Myself. I will write my essay about myself.
             It seems that the appropriate place to start is the fall of 1997, the time that I
             started at Herricks High School. There I was. A thirteen year old girl entering what
             seemed to be the largest building that I had ever seen. The hallways seemed endless and
             even though I had always been one of the tallest people in my school I suddenly felt that if
             I didn't watch my step I could easily be squashed by one of those "seniors". I viewed
             seniors as the people who would shove you into a locker just for mis-matching your shoes
             with your shirt. Yep, they were scary, (or so they seemed). Freshman year passed by
             faster than I could blink then all of a sudden, I was a sophomore.
             Wow, did I feel cool being a sophomore. I loved all of my teachers and I felt so
             old. I now realize that I was just a step above being a freshman but at the time I felt as
             though I was on top of the world. That year was amazing. I took a trip to London with a
             performing arts class that I am still in now and it was the time of my life. I thought that
             the rest of high school was going to be as fun as this. That was before I knew what junior
             Junior year was all about nights where I stayed up late to write papers on how
             women's fashion affected our society or figuring out quadratic equations. That year I
