Drinking and driving it has been proven to killEvery week of the year two jet airliners plunge from the sky and kill everyone on board. If this statement was completely true, than there would be a nationwide outrage led by the public, the government, and many other organizations to stop this atrocity. Yet, it would take two jets crashing every week throughout the year to be comparable too the number of people killed in automobile crashes where alcohol was involved. Of the 41,611 traffic fatalities in 1999, 38% (15,786)(Statisitical Pamplet.) where alcohol-related, making alcohol the leading factor in motor vehicle deaths. There are a large percentage of people who consume alcohol on a regular basis. This task in itself is deemed to be legal by the United States government after the age of twenty-one. There have been laws stating the penalties for driving after consuming too much alcohol and attempting to drive. This leaving anyone under the age of twenty-one with any intoxicating substances in their system to be dri!ving under the influence (DUI). This is something that happens no matter the time of day, the day of the week, or even the time of year. Other than the negative affects on ones body or the penalties for driving in an intoxicated state there are innocent victims of alcohol related accidents. Two drinks within a half-hour would leave them with lowered inhibitions and mental relaxation.
