There is a saying that "Money is power" with one percent of the people in the United States holding the greatest portion of the wealth, this statement can be scary. Many of these people are in the computer business, or have inherited their money from their ancestors. Today the top 5 wealthiest persons in the United States are; Bill Gates, Microsoft, #1 $63 billion, Larry Ellison, Oracle, #2 $58 billion, Paul Allen, Microsoft, #3 $36 billion, Warren Buffet, Berkshire Hathaway, #4 $28 billion, Gordon Moore, Intel, #5 $26 billion. After earning all of this money what are they to do with it? They have all earned more money then they are going to be able to spend in their lifetime. More philanthropists like Gates and Moore could aid our country to having a higher standard of living for everyone in our economy. It is understandable to own a 78-foot yacht, as he does, because that can be used as leisure. When has flying a fighter jet become a leisure activity? There are many of people that could be helped with the money that went towards a jet fighter. Cashing in all of one's stocks at that price seems to be unheard of. He will not be fighting in any wars. If we could choose who held wealth and who didn't, Larry Ellison would not be wealthy in my book. They wealth that they are claiming would more than likely not be assessable if they were to take all of their money out of stocks and investments. The wealth they hold is all down on paper, in stocks and investments. Most of these wealthy Americans see that they have power but either chooses to ignore it, utilize it, or flaunt it. Seeing as our society looks up to many of these people that hold wealth they should at least be good role models for everyone to follow. 5 million to Cambridge University for a new science library. When looking at the wealthiest people in the United States, many of them don't hold their wealth.
