Every teenager deals with acne and zits during their crucial adolescent years. Acne not only affects teens physically, but it also affects them emotionally. Teen's acne problems can range from mild to serious. Appearance is important to most kids, and acne is a major issue with teens' appearances.
             Acne is a skin condition characterized by zits or pimples. They usually are found on the face, neck, and upper body. Sadly, people's most visible areas of the body are where zits are commonly found. There are more than fifty different varieties. Acne can either be noninflammatory, which is red or swollen, or inflammatory (red or swollen).
             Mild, moderate, and severe are the different levels of acne. Mild acne usually comes as blackheads and whiteheads. Both blackheads and whiteheads are noninflammatory. Acne, which is moderate, may include blackheads or whiteheads, and inflamed zits. A teenager with moderate acne may also get red zits with white centers. The worst is severe acne, and it is characterized by nodules, which are also called cysts. Cysts are big, painful lumps under someone's skin that can contribute to scarring. If a teenager develops a cyst, he or she should see a doctor to remove it. The removal of a cyst would reduce the risk of scarring.
             To most teenagers' surprise, zits are not caused by pizza, french fries, chocolate, or other junk foods. Hormones which teens produce once they enter puberty could cause acne. Some of the hormones (androgens) make the sebaceous glands to increase their oil production. The sebaceous glands are usually found in the face, back, chest, and neck. These enlargements of sebaceous glands are another culprit of the cause of acne. The excess oil along with increased skin growth and shedding of skin cells may clog your hair follicles.
