Response for Ch. 1, Should I major in psychology
From reading chapter 1, I got a better understanding of what is involved in psychology. I read about what it means to major in psychology. I learned that students that graduate with an undergraduate degree in psychology don't become psychologists. You must have an advanced degree. However you will be able to work in psychology related areas with a BA or a BS. I also learned what psychology is exactly, it is a distinct and diverse field. It focuses on the individual as the unit of analysis. Psychology is social science; therefore it should provide you with a good understanding of the benefits of the scientific method.
Why should I be a psychology major? There are several reasons, here are some of them: want to signal employers that you have an interest in people, want to work in human services, want to continue on in a psychology-related graduate program, want to double major with another field to combine interests, just find the subject fascinating, and many more.
Another question that was answered was: Will I be able to get a job with an undergraduate psychology degree? The answer is nationally, the vast majority of psychology majors are employed. You might not be working directly in psychology-related field, but the employers are interested in the skills that psychology majors tend to have. Another question answered was, will I make any money? Unfortunately, psychology majors tend to make less money than many other college graduates
