Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King was born on January 15th, 1929 in Atlanta. His father Martin Luther king Sr., was a pastor and his mother Alberta Williams King was the daughter of a previous pastor of the same church. When he was growing up he was a very smart boy and excellent student. His classmates nicknamed him Mike. He has an older sister named Christine and a younger brother named A. D., who he attended an all black school with. Martin Luther king enjoyed listening to many preached his father would tell him and his friends would often come over and listen as well. When king was in high school he skipped 9th grade then later on skipped 12th grade. He graduated at the young age of 15. He then entered Atlanta's Morehouse College. At the end of his junior year his decision was to pursue to be a minister. In the year of 1948, King was ordained a minister. He also went back to join his father at the black college where students catapulted the civil rights struggle into a new era. Five months after that, the approval of a second landmark civil rights statute, the voting Rights act of 1965. He encou!raged African Americans to fight for equal rights until they were able to join hands. In November of 1955 Coretta had a daughter named Yolanda. King is no a days still remembered for many things such as his optimism of his 1963 "I Have a Dream," sermon, his outspoken opposition in the Vietnam War and his intelligence. At the age of 22 he began his doctoral studies at Boston University School of Theology. In 1960, King moved from Montgomery to Atlanta to give more time to the SCLC. King graduated in 1951 from crozer and was the class valedictorian. Early in 1957 he and several others founded something called the Southern Christian Leadership Conferences known as the SCLC.
