The Patriot
The title I chose for this paper is straight forward because essentially this is my view. The Patriot was a good mix of historically covering the Revolutionary War and having what it takes to grab an audience of people who may not be history majors. When watching this movie for the first time you quickly associate Mel Gibson's character Benjamin Martin as The Patriot but after a better look you may find other characters that could be The Patriot. That I will explain in further detail later on. Historically accurate or not and whomever you want to be The Patriot the movie is excellent. First off characters in the movie. As far as I'm concerned the main characters are; Gabriel Martin because his actions strongly affect the protagonist in this movie. The protagonist, Benjamin Martin, father of Gabriel. Colonel Tavington, because of his constant conflict with Benjamin Martin. To me Tavington is the antagonist in this movie. Due to the fact of the personal battles they have in this movie and their determination to do one another in. General Cornwallis stands out to me because of his great leadership. Now you may not think so but I believe that the black man who fought for the militia was a main character and I don't think that he
I can see where a person could label his sons as hero's, but I disagree with him and believe that he is the "patriot" of this film. Which would lead to nearly the demise of both of them. Shortly thereafter the capture and order to hang his oldest son was a motivation to fight. So then the "slaves" were confiscated. Benjamin watched Tavington shoot his son in the back for trying to help his brother. For instance when the heavy set older guy was in the streets and shouting about the taxes and then taxation without representation. Pride can be a downfall for some people. The only real advantage that one side would have over the other was good leadership. I can see how a person might pick Gabriel Martin as the Patriot, but the explanation isn't as clear and easy to back up in my opinion. The Patriots life style at the films opening was laid back. The word slave is not what we are looking for here. So the movie leads the audience to believe Martin's farm was slave free. The plot of the movie The Patriot is this. His first major motivation, which helped compel him to fight, was Thomas getting shot in the back by Colonel Tavington. I chose the more initial obvious Patriot.
