The Patriot

             The title I chose for this paper is straight forward because essentially this is my view. The Patriot was a good mix of historically covering the Revolutionary War and having what it takes to grab an audience of people who may not be history majors. When watching this movie for the first time you quickly associate Mel Gibson's character Benjamin Martin as The Patriot but after a better look you may find other characters that could be The Patriot. That I will explain in further detail later on. Historically accurate or not and whomever you want to be The Patriot the movie is excellent.
             First off characters in the movie. As far as I'm concerned the main characters are; Gabriel Martin because his actions strongly affect the protagonist in this movie. The protagonist, Benjamin Martin, father of Gabriel. Colonel Tavington, because of his constant conflict with Benjamin Martin. To me Tavington is the antagonist in this movie. Due to the fact of the personal battles they have in this movie and their determination to do one another in. General Cornwallis stands out to me because of his great leadership. Now you may not think so but I believe that the black man who fought for the militia was a main character and I don't think that he became a main character to me until the end when he had put in his twelve months and knew it and stayed to fight anyway. When he said that he was there on his own accord. That character became significant to me.
             The plot of the movie The Patriot is this. Even though the movie is taking place at the time of the Revolutionary War. The movie evolves around Benjamin Martin. His struggles, losses and gains. The movie starts off in South Carolina in 1776. Where Benjamin Martin an ex-fighter in the French and Indian War. Is trying to live the simple life as a widower with his seven children in peace attempting to avoid the inevitable war with the British. However, without the help of his oldest so...
