Western Civilization
Civilization is defined as having a relatively high level of cultural and technological development; specifically the stage of cultural development at which writing and the keeping of written records is attained. Civilization is an advanced level of development in society that is marked by complex social and political organization, as well as, material, scientific, and artistic progress. Civilization is the way of life that began by those who live in cities. Civilization comes from the word civis, which comes from Latin, and means citizen of a city. Civilization is characterized by everything that makes up the way of life in a city. This includes form of government, arts, customs, and technology. Civilization is similar to a culture except that civilization is more advanced and complex. Culture is defined as being "any way of life". Everyone has a culture, but not everyone exists in a civilization. The increase in agriculture and domestication of animals were major steps in civilization, which supported most of everyone in a small town. Ishtar the goddess represents natural forces that reflect the environment and local surroundings in a society that observes life and death in the seasons, and asks the big question, "Is there life after death?" She is Venus, or the goddess of fertility, and she is good evidence of an exceptional religion that had not yet reached the stage of monotheism.
