Building the Future

I am writing this because I feel there is something I must pass on, a terrific contagion that has the potential to change the world. I have experienced something quite beautiful and I want to ensure that others receive that same blessing. I am talking about optimism, not in the sense of believing everything will be fine and we should just sit back, or in the sense of believing everyone will work selflessly toward common goals, I am talking about a profound awe at the possibilities afforded us by the universe, the future. I do not believe one should live for the future, live for today and you live for today and tomorrow, but one of life's greatest pleasures is in overcoming obstacles and solving problems so it follows that in solving the problems of today we create a better future for everyone.I say that problems such as pollution, poverty, world hunger, oppression and anything else you can think of can be solved, perhaps it is youthful idealism but for what purpose do the young become idealistic other than to provide the world with a new outlook and ideas to create their future? If we restrict ourselves by claiming that something is impossible, what do we gain? If it is and we try to find a solution (not e

If we look, we will find (it is up to us what we find). If we treat others well because we love them then we can do whatever we like and never do wrong (or we can destroy the beauty all around us). But we, as individuals as well as within groups, are not powerless, we are the future, we will be responsible for our own world when we grow up and have to live in it. But think, and keep on thinking until it is such a strong habit you can't help but think, critically and creatively. When we lose our freedom (mentally and to a lesser extent emotionally) it is because we allowed ourselves to let it go. Science is never difficult, it just needs to be explained better, any 11 year old can understand the concepts behind Quantum Physics (I'd recommend The quantum universe but I can't remember the name of the authors, so try A Brief History of Time by Steven Hawking, or better still good sci-fi). ven at the implementation stage) what do we lose?Ideas are free, they cost us nothing and give us so much, they are the first step to creation. I believe that pessimism holds us back, instead of being a generation leading ourselves boldly into a world that is ours to shape and mould we are behaving like spoiled children who didn't get everything we wanted given to us on a plate by the all seeing eye. This could also help curb excess consumerism. This is just my idea, it shows quite clearly neither communism or capitalism are necessary and that it is quite possible to think of reasonable alternatives, if we all work at it we may come up with something that makes perfect sense to ourselves and maybe a group of others, then each of us can begin a new movement. For instance, if I wished to end world hunger, a huge task never before successfully tried, so firstly I might think that the past is a bad place to look for a solution, because it is a problem never solved. Libertarians make a excellent critique of Marxism, but conveniently forget the problems of capitalism. If we learn how our minds work then we can feel the way we want to (or we can be controlled by chemicals). We can therefore abolish wage slavery leaving people free to develop freely and better human culture. Brainstorming is also a good idea, write (or better still save trees and type -did I ever say I wasn't a hypocrite?-) down everything you can think of even the most stupid ideas, you can amaze yourself with your creativity this way, and if you think of nothing practical (and just because it seems silly doesn't mean it is) then at least you can use some of it in fiction.
