Hemmingway
Ernest Hemingway was born on July 21st 1899, in the home of Clarence and Grace Hemingway (JFK 1). Their home was in a Chicago suburb of Oak Park, Illinois. His father, a family doctor and his mother an opera singer, decided not to take it as a career, but instead she decided to get marry and have six children. Ernest's parents were very religious, he grew up in a mainly around a protestant family (CNN1). As a youngster, Hemingway enjoyed hunting and fishing.After graduating from high school, Hemingway fled to Kansas City and obtained a job as a cub reporter for the Kansas City Star newspaper (CNN 2). Here Hemingway covered all types of stories ranging from violence to strikes. "Use short sentences. Use short first paragraphs. Use vigorous English, not forgetting to strive for smoothness. Be positive, not negative." The emphasis was on clear writing. "Those were the best rules I ever learned for the business of writing," Hemingway declared. "I've never forgotten them. No man with any talent, who feels and writes truly about the thing he is trying to say, can fail to write well if he abides with them." "On the Star you were forced to learn to write a simple declarative sentence. That's useful to anyone."(JFK 2)
During this period of time, Hemingway lost his father; he committed suicide because of health and financial problems that led him into depression. In 1921 Hemingway had his fist son with her, named John Nicanor Hemingway. Pfeiffer and Hemingway moved to Key West, Florida. He received a medal of valor form the Italian army and was noticed as the first American wounded in Italy (JFK 3). Hemingway began to loose weight and his shock treatments continued and his stress level began to rise (JFK 12). At this point in time, Hemingway was one of the most recognized faces in the world. If he has written well everything that is him has gone into the writing and he faces another morning when he must do it again. There is always another morning and another morning,"Hemingway suffered severe injuries from two plane cashes. Hemingway decided to work as a volunteer in World War I, but do to bad eyesight he was rejected (CNN 2). Secondly his mother passed on along with Mary's father and Pauline Pfeiffer, who eventually died of a brain tumor. Hemmingway was heart broken, at this time he was working for the Toronto Star, and fell in love with Hadley Richardson (Baker 75). Eventually Hemingway moved to Paris where he could concentrate on becoming a writer (CNN 3). He began shock treatments in 1960, which were very severe and caused memory loss. While in Italy Hemingway suffered a severe injury, he was saving a soldiers life when a mortar shell exploded near him and injured both of his legs, but he still managed to save the life of the soldier and himself.
