             Her spiky jet black hair was splotched with chunky green streaks. Her black lipstick and wild purple eyeliner contrasted sharply with her ghastly white skin. She had three piercings on her face, and her ears were completely covered in metal hoops. The words "anti-social" were printed across her black shirt. Rachel was the type of girl that most people would be afraid to even make eye contact with, she also happened to be my roommate.
             I had been studying abroad for the summer in Italy, and on the day that I was supposed to return home to the States, my flight was cancelled. Much to my dismay, I was forced to spend the night in Milan and take the earliest flight the following day. Because Rachel was on the same flight as I, she was forced to spend the night as well. Unfortunately, since we were grouped together through the summer program, the airline only gave us once voucher for a hotel room, and thus we became roommates. In that instant, my day went from bad to worse.
             When we arrived at the hotel, I was to scared and too grouchy to even talk to Rachel. I simply wanted to be at home in my own bed, not in some random airport hotel with a girl who made Marilyn Manson look tame. As a result, for a few hours I entertained myself and avoided her by taking a shower, brushing my teeth about three times, and reading the same magazine over and over.
             However, it started getting late, and my stomach began gnawing at the emptiness inside of it. I could not fight the inevitable anymore, and so I looked over at Rachel and asked her if she wanted to join me for dinner. Even though I hoped she would say no, she accepted my invitation, and we walked down to the lobby together.
             Dinner began in silence by mentioning that our small Italian waitress reminded her of her grandmother. This caught my attention, and we soon discovered that we both have a common Italian background. We ended up conversing comfortably for the rest of the meal,...
