The Anasazi are an ancient group of Native Americans whose descendants are believed to be the Pueblo people. The Anasazi dwelled on the plateaus located around the four corners located in the Southwest. Their artistic contribution was pottery with complex designs. The Anasazi’s painted pottery was used for ceremonies as well as practical uses. These pots became an important aesthetic medium and were produced in abundance. The Hopi are a people occupying a number of pueblos in northeastern Arizona. One day she lassoed two Navajo ladies with her web and pulled them up there and taught them how to weave rugs. Tradition claims that Navajo women learned the art of weaving from Spider Woman who constructed a loom according to directions given by Spider Man. The Hopi people have a long tradition of making pottery containers for both profit and tradition, and will continue to do this.
Many of these items are seen in Animal Dreams by Barbara Kingsolver. The geometric designs be it on the houses or on their pottery is prevalent through out the story. Most are seen when they enter Loyd’s mother’s home.
