Freedoms and allowances here on earth
As human beings we were made by our creator and given many freedoms and allowances here on earth. In chapter one of Kammer's book he calls this an original blessing traceable to the creation stories which he calls our "giftedness." This giftedness is not a privilege but a commission to "stewardship." Stewardship in turn is our relationship with our fellow man or "community." This is the beginning of a time honored and quintessential theme of the Bible's Old Testament. This is the Cycle of Baal. The cycle, in short, is the story of the reoccurring human drama of finding God and losing him, only to return at the lowest point and be redeemed by our ever faithful Creator in fulfillment of His covenant. So, in the beginning when God promised the people of Israel land and prosperity for the generations to come, there was a cohesive sense of duty to one's community. Even when people prospered, scripture and law commanded them that they must not keep to themselves, but reach out to the anawim or the poor. Through this divine request the people could be given knowledge of God's purpose for his creation. Creation itself, the animals, plants, etc, is not ours to own, but ours to keep. Keep in every sense of the word meaning to ho
Kammer quotes Psalm 135:15-18, which basically says we no longer speak, hear, listen, or live the truth of God, but become dead to the truth He proclaims. However, there is always a friend, family member, or even a common stranger that has something to say about what they see in you. Once we can see in ourselves that there is good, then we can use that good, not for our own glory, but for His. " To conclude, I would like to say that reading Kammer's chapter on the Cycle of Baal refreshed in me a sense of purpose and meaning. His purpose and His heart are revealed to us the more we reach out to others at their "lowest of lows. Personal wealth and riches beyond our wildest dreams dabble at our fingertips and we create in them a sense of worth and purpose that serve nothing but our own personal desires. Thus, I will be the first to admit it has happened to me and Kammer boldly points out that it is this that leads us down the broken path. Why on earth was such a random event happening in my life? The simplest answer is that earth had nothing to do with it. Even though Kammer does not delve too heavily in one's personal relationship with God, I just want to point out that when one loses focus on God's purpose for them, that before they even realize what they have lost, they immediately, without seeing it, find other means to fill the void in their lives. We only share in that when we give our hearts to knowing His plan for us and living His intentions to the fullest. We have broken God's prime commandment. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. I am kindly reminded of my abilities that God gave to me to, so that I can serve my fellow man, and belong to the greater part of the community God created for us. Consequently, God has exhausted His messengers and we are left to our own demise.
