The movie Gladiator is an epic tale of a Roman general who is betrayed by the Romangovernment who kills his family under the leadership by a corrupt Roman prince who isturned king, the roman general comes back as a gladiator to seek revenge on the princeturned king. The movie which was made in 2000 stars Russell Crowe as the Romangeneral Maximus, Joaquin Phoenix as Comodus the prince turned king and Oliver Reed asProximo the generals kind servant along with a whole list of other characters. The mainplot of the story is Maximus, the most-trusted general serving the aging Caesar MarcusAurelius leading troops into battle against Germania in 180 A.D. But Marcus Aureliuswants Maximus to fight a tougher opponent.. the corruption of Rome, by taking powerafter the emperor's death and restoring Rome to a republic. Maximus is reluctant,preferring to return to his wife and son, but he agrees to serve his Caesar. But his Caesardoesn't last too long, thanks to Marcus Aurelius' son Commodus who kills his Dad andtakes the throne and orders Maximus and his family executed. Maximus escapes, only tobe captured by slave traders who train him as a gladiator. Maximus gets a chance atrevenge on Commodus when he goes to Rome

The three main themes in my opinion are as follows: The king wanting to oppointMaximus as the king, but the king son finds out about it and then kills his father to becomeking and kills the generals family. " Thereason why I like this line from the movie was because every thing that he said was a factor was going to become a fact because his family was all dead and now he is going to gethis vengeance on the king by killing him. The gladiator who defied an emperor. In the beginning of the movie the government system was a Monarchy which means thecity is controlled by the one person usually a King like in the movie, but sometimes by adictator like Fidel Castro of Cuba. My favorite line in the movie would have to be "The general who became a slave. Some of the content that is related to the material in our text books our basically thegovernment systems that we are studying about and the classifying the classes by forexample social or financial classes are divided up. The class rankings were divided upby social classes like in the coliseum the classes were seated in different spots in thecoliseum. But at the end of the movie the government systemturned into a Democracy due to the killing of the king. Maximus isa hit with the crowd, setting him against Commodus in a battle for the hearts and minds ofRome. Those are my favorite lines in the movie. In the movie there really wasn't any specific kids if economy except for whenthe king said he would collect taxes from the people to sponsor the gladiator event.
