Subjects:
1. The natural world includes events that occur.
2. In the natural world, every event has a cause, and no event causes itself.
3. In the natural world, causes must precede their effects.
4. In the natural world, there are no infinite cause/effect chains.
5. Hence there is an entity outside of nature (a supernatural being), which causes the first event that occurs in the world.
In our finite world of existence, an event cannot cause itself, and if there is no first cause, there would not be any effects. So, God is the first cause. God must exist since all his premises are all in support of his conclusion that the first cause is God. An atheist is likely to say that the Big Bang was the first cause, but Aquinas’s premises and conclusion will refute this theory, as we will view later. I agree with this theory of cause, because I believe that our existence could n
. . .
As mentioned before an atheist would try to argue this proof and the most likely argument would be that the first cause was not God, but a massive explosion. Due to this explosion, the universe, the earth and all matter were instantly created. Things do not just happen, something causes them to happen and we do not always have the mental knowledge or physical capacity to find that cause. The first event of existence had to begin with a force, a force known as God. Therefore, why must there be a cause or an explanation of the first event that occurs in that world. This entity outside of nature (supernatural being), which causes the first event that occurs in the natural world, is God. Without this first cause, our existence in this world would not be known. This premise can be shown as true, because we would not be here today if it was not for the first cause. However, just because searching into the cause for an event fails to produce an answer, this does not mean a cause does not exist. There has to be a start or first cause.
Can an event be the cause of itself? If we look at the following example we would have to say no: You and I are both humans, but we are not the first humans and neither are our parents, or our grandparents etc.
Causes must precede their effects, so for everything that occurs (the effect), there must be a force that makes the occurrence (the cause).
