In The Romanovs: The Final Chapter, Robert K. Massie solves most of the mysteries surrounding the death of Tsar Nicholas II and his family and the testing to identify their bones. The author also discredits the large number of people who had come forward and proclaimed themselves the tsar's children. The first section, "The Bones," deals with the actual finding of the bones believed to be those of the Romanovs. The second section, "Anna Anderson," tells the story of Anne Anderson and other imposters who claimed to be the tsar's lost children. The third section, "The Survivors", acquaints the reader with the Romanov family line. And finally, the fourth section, "The Ipatiev House," explains the life of Tsar Nicholas's immediate family and how they lived in the 78 days leading up to their deaths on July 16, 1918.The first part of the book mainly deals with the finding and validating of the Romanov bones. The story begins in Ekaterinburg with the actual killing of the Romanov family including Tsar Nicholas II, his wife Alexandra, his son Alexis, his four daughters Olga, Tatiana, Marie, and Anastatia. Also killed with them were Dr. Botkin, Trupp (Nicholas' valet), Demidova (Alexandra's maid), and Kharitonov, the cook. In 197
