             There are many differences, and a few similarities that can be found when comparing Islam and Hinduism. The preceding paragraphs will concentrate on comparing these specific areas: Background, Idea of God, Creation, Salvation, and Destiny.
             Firstly, we must recognize the backgrounds of the two religions. Islam, the youngest of the major world religions, is only fourteen centuries old. It originates from the story of Muhammad, a prince who, after much meditation, arrives at many a revelation. These revelations can be found in the Quran, which Muslims believe to be the will and essential truths of God imparted to Muhammad. Muslims base their lives upon these truths.
             Hinduism is the one of the oldest world religions. It concentrates on a main deity, Krishna, and because it is a polytheistic religion (unlike Islam) it also involves over three hundred and thirty million other gods.
             In this obvious way the two religions differ, for idea of God is one that varies widely. The Muslims believe that there is only one God and Muhammad is his prophet. God is not like humans and he can not be compared with anything there is on earth, which is why no idol or statues can represent God. This is almost the opposite of Hinduism, of which the primary act of worship is through puja, where devotion is expressed to the various deities in the presence of their images. In addition, these deities possess human traits, such as jealously, anger and even generosity.
             To answer to question of creation, the Muslims believe that God created the world, and nature operates by His laws and will. There is no single accepted version of creation among Hindus. Many choose to explain it in a legend that names Brahma as the creator, who then destroys the world, and creates it again in a cycle that is typical of the Hindu theology.
