             "Different Points of View of Philosophers"
             Jostein Gaarder is the author of Sophie's World, the New York Times bestseller and a novel about the History of Philosophy. Just by looking at the cover of the book we can imagine that Jostein is talking about the Presocratic era, and the four most common names in the world, Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. Each philosopher has a different point of view of life, nature, and truth. The Presocratic and other three philosophers can be called "natural philosophers," since, as most early Greek philosophers were concerned with the natural (physical) world and its process.
             To start talking about philosophy, we must know who were all these philosophers and their philosophical ideas. For furthering my understanding I looked for extra help to know more about each philosopher. First I thought that all this was crazy, but later on I recognize that during that time people were very interested in knowing everything, like why we live, how we live, and how and what nature is? These are just three questions that I remark but there are thousands others.
             The Presocratic philosophers believed that something had always existed and that nothing can come from nothing. They observed that nature was constantly changing, and they asked themselves how could it change by itself. They thought in a metaphysical way. I say this because throughout the novel we can see how they made questions that could never be answered. An example of this is; what is eternity? How big is the universe? These philosophers asked these types of questions in which nobody was and is able to answer.
             The philosophers had a point of view about "truth." The Presocratic philosophers believed in absolute truth. They said that everything in the world is made out of substances. One thing makes another. An example could be the atom (basic living thing). They thought that substan
