Night by Elie Wiesel

Word Count: 779

The book Night by Elie Wiesel brings unto a true tale of horrendous events that occurred

during the Holocaust. It is told through the eyes of, Eliezer, a young Jewish boy. At his

young age he began learning and studying the "revelations and mysteries of the cabbla",

Jewish theosophy, with his teacher, Moshe the Beadle (3). The Talmud was something that

he devoted himself too during the day and the cabbala at night. Eliezer was able to escape

when Moshe and Beadle were taken away in a cattle train. He saw how Hitler reign was

destructive and despairing and came back to warn everyone, "…I wanted to come back

and warn you…"(5). However some were not so grateful and thought that he had gone

senseless. Eliezer's father, Chlomo, was a very well known man in the town of Sighet,

where they lived. He was like the town wise man that knew all

. . .

They both knew that

they needed each other for them to survive. There are many times where Eliezer has to find his father

when they were separated. Chlomo fell

asleep and was mistaken for a dead body. It's dangerous to fall asleep in the snow. They know that they need to protect each other, so much because neither of

them wants to see the other suffer. His

relationship with his father, I found, was the most important thing for him to survive. the answers and always

willing to give advice. However Eliezer was able to convince the other

men that he was still alive, "…slap him as hard as he could until finally he eyelids

moved…"(94). After every Jewish New Year everyone goes threw a selection

process where the Nazi's decided on who is the strongest and fastest between everyone

else, in hopes that they do not write your number down.

Another incident where Eliezer and Chlomo need each other is during the escape from

Buma. Eliezer can

only watch this abusive action, as he too does not want to get beaten. Though Eliezer always found his

father, there is always that one chance that he could not be there. All Jews and disliked officials were thrown into concentration camps

to be treated like slaves. Though Eliezer's father was a bit

slow at times, he never thought twice about leaving him or giving up.
