Freedom
For thousands of years, mankind has searched for the true meaning of freedom. There are people all over the world believing that America symbolizes freedom. For the people who live in America, they believe that they have freedom. America is a free country; you have the freedom of speech and freedom to do things as one pleases. But is the freedom that we have the true freedom? Gerry Spence who is one of the American's most outspoken and successful trial lawyers, says that, "We are not free. Nor have we ever been." We as humans, we are afraid and worried about many things. We are afraid of death, loneliness, and rejections. Since we have so many things to be afraid and worry about, we don't really have freedom. To me, freedom is not to be afraid or worried about something. In other words, when I have no burden, then I am free. It is just like what Gerry Spence said, "A state of perfect freedom is a state of nothingness." NO matter how free we believe we are, there is always an invisible chain that fetters us. The shackle can be our family, people around us, the world we live in, and even ourselves. Even though we have the freedom to do what we please, say, and what we want; but we are not as free as we think we a
To follow the command, that means we cannot do things the way we wish to. There is no pure freedom after commitment. The cost is also a factor that I can't go as many times as I want. That is will our actions affect others? For example, I love snowboarding. As their son, I am already a burden to them, I shouldn't let them worry some more as what they already have. When we are employee, we need to follow the employer's command, or else we will get fired. For most of us, when we wish to do something, we always have thoughts going through our mind. A human, we are afraid of many things; afraid of causing worry. For most of our lives, we follow other people's command, because we don't want to get rejected. There are religions all over the world, each religion have their own sets of roles. We put ourselves into religion roles. They both give up the freedom to have love relationships with other men or women; because they have made a commitment to each other.
