Influential Females
I certainly agree with Queen Elizabeth II's statement: "A female character may have a significant influence, positive or negative, on another character." Females can easily charm or use seductive words to persuade others around them. It can be either be to win something over, or to positively influence someone to make a right decision. If a female desires something she can easily get it, whether its for wealth or power. In the play Macbeth by Shakespeare, and The Crucible by Authur Miller, both authors show how a female character may have a notable influence on another. Both Lady Macbeth and Abigail Williams demonstrate that they can easily entice other characters.
When Mary Warren did not listen to Abigail she was almost beat up by Proctor thanks to Abigail's lies. After Abigail involves all her friends in dancing in the woods, the town is convinced they are all bewitched. With some convincing words and a good plan, anyone can easily influence someone. After long thoughts Macbeth is ultimately persuaded that killing King Duncan is for the better. But Macbeth, unwilling to accept the possible consequences, finds himself backing out. Abigail admits secretly to John Proctor that no witchcraft was involved, so Proctor confronts his servant Mary Warren. Meanwhile, Abigail almost had her so-called friend killed because she refused to lie to the court. Foreshadowing is seen in the chaos and disorder right before the Kings Death, with the horses killing each other and moaning winds. But Abigail knows its all a lie and they were just dancing. She seeks to transform Macbeth into a cruel, aggressive man. With Abigail's negative influence on all her friends, she could have easily had Mary and her friends killed. John Proctor threatened to beat Mary for going to court with Abigail against his orders. Lady Macbeth effortlessly persuaded Macbeth to kill the king, after letting him recognize he is too timid and has to transform into a brave man to get what he desires. Both these ladies had negative influences on other people.
