"Of Gratitude and Platitude"
             The main point of this article is about the discourtesy and change in behavior of people in the modern day society. There has been a dramatic change in the ideologies of the people. People are becoming more and more uncivilized and lacking respect and they are not showing the respect that once used to be shown. There are many examples given by the author to support it. The way of showing respect and courtesy has also changed a lot as time passed. It is not just that people are not showing courtesy the way they express it has also changed.
             The writers purpose is to show how the society has changed as age progresses. The way people talk, speak and behave has all changed. The recent story about the New York publicist who called the guy who was in charge of parking at a club white trash just because he asked her to remove her car as it was parked in a no parking zone and tried to mow him down with her SUV. She instead ended up mowing fifteen people some of them seriously injured. This is a perfect example of rudeness and its not just rudeness its craziness. It is not that uncivilized or uneducated people show disrespect, but people who are educated and civilized are indulging in this kind of uncouth behavior. The other example is of the parents of soccer players who were shouting obscenities at a teenage coach.
