Winner of four Academy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards, "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" paved a new path for foreign language films in America. It was the dream of the director, Ang Lee, to one day produce a Chinese tradition film that depicted the fantasy world of martial arts with its own specific laws; where people can fly and almost anything can happen. Unlike most martial arts film in the industry base solely on fight scenes, Lee was able to have "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" a film that included the sense of fantasy, action, power, and romance. Yet, without the help of the whole cast, Lee's incredible dream would probably remain a fantasy only in his own mind.
The setting of the film took place during the 19th century where China was left untouched by the western civilization while the Chinese tradition and its breathtaking landscape sworn the entire plains of main lands. Two excellent swordsman masters (Chow Yun fat and Michelle Yeoh) are challenged with the disappearance of the most treasured Green Destiny sword. Besides this minor setback, this film brought awe and excitement across each and every audience's face. The way she gazes directly at the camera shows the confident in her ability to act and perform as a young actor. This gives a whole new prospective to the viewers. In his film, "Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon", he told a story of two couples in complete love of where one is fighting side by side and the other is fighting to be by ones' side. The actors and actresses were both talented in martial arts and dramatic in performance. Michelle having been in most action pack films portrayed her character most strong and confident. The sadness of the song depicts the sorrow of letting go of their love ones and the sense of dragging in the piece is the prolonging of their love which is endless and everlasting. His graceful movement and handling of the Green Destiny was remarkable.
The actors and actresses also contributed greatly to the success of the film. As for the actresses, Michelle Yeoh performed majestically with Zhang Ziyi. The power and aggressiveness were still present in the scene, yet instead of harsh violent blow, each punches and kicks flowed gently like a breeze.
The most intriguing part of the film was the excellent choreographed fight scene. At a first glance, it was amusing and quite exciting.
