This just in: There has been a bombing downtown today. . The blast killed 167 men, women, and children and injured 853 others . Nineteen children, many in a second floor daycare center, died in the Building's collapse Thirty children were orphaned. A total of 219 children lost a parent The force of the blast damaged 324 surrounding buildings, overturned automobiles, touched off car fires, and blew out windows and doors in a 50-block area. News reports indicated the explosion was felt 55 miles from the site and registered 6.0 on the Richter scale. "iT IS ASSUMED THAT THE ATTACK IS A RESULT OF TERRORIISM FROM THE MIDDLE EAST" . In the wake of what has happened on the 11th of September I don't believe any of us would be totally surprised to turn on CNN tonight and hear this broadcast. And indeed you may actually have heard it before. The "bombing" referred to was actually the Oklahoma city bombing. After the federal building in Oklahoma City was bombed, the media and some politicians immediately blamed "Middle Eastern men." They turned out to be wrong. When timothy McVeigh was charged and convicted there wasn't a widespread wave of hatred toward the ", white , Midwestern male" sect of the poulation . However since the attack on new york and DC we have seen that hatred towards the arab american and muslim sect of our society. . This hit close to home when I began to hear stories of a mosque in a near by community being vandalized. Friends of mine being harassed and Climaxed when an arab man in texas was actually shot and killed because of his race. I don'tt understand how in the united states of America we can do this to each other. 'United we stand' applies to every American, regardless of race, color, religion or creed. I hope to be able to convey this as well as clear up some misconceptions that lead to predjidice against Arab Americans and Muslims today.
