Kids and Violent Crimes

Killer kids. They’re everywhere, or so it seems. Each evening’s news brings us stories of these savage juveniles who appear to kill for sport or simply for the thrill of knowing what if feels like to kill. These kids appear to have no remorse and leave the rest of us confused and terrified. Violent teens are every parent and school’s nightmare, if you believe what you read in the papers and hear on the news. We have all heard the horror stories of younger and younger kids who are picking up weapons and harming or killing others.

One of the most horrific of there cases was the shooting at Columbine H.S. in Littletown, Colorado where Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, ages 17 and 18, massacred 12 of their classmates and a teacher before killing themselves. What is going on in the mind of a child or teen who kills? This is one of the puzzles our society must struggle with if we are to understand how to find a solution to child murderess. Politicians would have us believe that if we can pass new and better laws, we can cut down on juvenile crime. But this is not the case. We must first understand what is that leads a kid to kill in the first place before we can go on to the next step towards a solution to juvenile violenc

Weapons are one of the worst things that could happen in a school.

Metal detectors, ID cards, and security cameras and devices are finding a new home in schools. Zero tolerance is good, but not for these cases. This prevents teachers from having a meaningful relationship with students.

· As levels of violence in the general society have risen sharply, it is a disturbing, but not surprising corollary that the levels of violence in and around schools have also increased. It is said that uniforms help to keep more peace in the school.

What made these students into killers that they would consciously go out and kill people? No one will ever know except the student who did it. Most Catholic schools have less tolerance and is a better teaching environment. The report details warning signs in four areas of a student's life:

1) personality,

2) family,

3) school behavior, and

4) other factors such as drugs and alcohol. Decrease the number of unlocked entrances and exits, require students to carry a hall pass when roaming during class period, but keep passes to a minimum and necessity basis only.

There are four factors that increase youth violence:

1) easy access to weapons, usually handguns;

2) early usage of drugs and alcohol;

3) association with antisocial groups;

4) repeated exposure to violence in the media and television.
