Steroids

Talent is shown when an athlete succeeds, on the field, in the water, on the track, winning is on the players mind. This can be such a big deal that athletes turn to steroid. Athletes that take steroids are running a big risk not only of getting caught but they are playing with their health and their life. Steroids is something that is illegal because experts say that it gives them an unfair advantage and because it can kill you.

Steroids are used all over the world and in different ways. There are five main drugs that are banned:

Anabolic steroids - these help athletes to build muscle, and to recover faster from training;

Peptide hormones - these are substances that occur naturally in the body, but which produce similar effects to the anabolic steroids;

Strong analgesic painkillers - such as morphine and other opiates;

Stimulants - drugs like amphetamines and cocaine can raise the heart rate and may improve performance;

Diuretics - chemicals that help the body to lose fluids, and may, for instance, be useful in helping boxers to meet their fighting weight. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport/hi/english/in_depth/2000/drugs_in_sport/newsid_859000/859465.stm

. . .

For males it increases risk of prostate enlargement and cancer, decreasing of testicular size, and gynecomastia which is the growth of breasts. Causes baldness, acne, insomnia, decreases sex drive. Steroids are like a loaded gun that we choose to play with when we take them. But older people that are in high school do these drugs.

While these drugs normally do not produce a physical addiction the psychological addiction is very real. For the kids that are ten years old it is not really there fault because they do what their parents tell them to do. So what happens when users terminate the use of steroids? They have become so dependant on their appearance and the "pumped" feeling they had while on the steroids, when they discontinue their use, they become depressed, can't sleep, can't eat properly, and can possibly become suicidal due to the psychological "withdraw" symptoms.

These people are breaking the law and ignoring the consequences of the physical and illegal steroids. In an article called “Seduced by Steroids” written by Carleton Kendrick says “Kids are taking steroids. Parents buy these illegal drugs for there sons so that they are the best players on the team.
