Bob Marley introduced the world to reggae music, and was first artist from a third world country to reach international superstardom. His songs of love, faith, and revolution touched the lives of millions, and his constant message of peace helped shape Jamaica's future. Throughout his short lived career he overcame many obstacles to become one of the most influential artists in music history.
             Robert Nesta Marley was born on February 6, 1945 in St. Ann, Jamaica. His father, Norvol Marley left his mother, Cidella Malcom shortly after bob was born. A couple of years later Bob and his mother moved to Trench Town, West-Kingston, because his mother was looking for a job. Bob Marley loved the fast life in the big city, as well as the music of Fats Domino, Ray Charles witch were very popular in Jamaica.
             Bob started his music career at the age of sixteen. Like many Jamaican kids he saw music as an escape from the harsh reality of the ghetto he lived in. He recorded his first two singles Judge Not in 1961 and One More Cup of Coffee in 1962. Neither of them did well. In 1964 Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny Livingstone, Junior Braithwaite, Beverley Kelso, Cherry, and Constantine Walker formed the band The Wailers. Bob acted as the leader of the band writing most of the material. The Wailers became very popular in 1965 when they recorded several hits: Simmer Down, It Hurts to Be Alone, and Rule Them Rudie. These were first of many hits to come from the Wailers.
