In today's society there are many topics that are carefully thoughtabout to be controversial. However, possibly no coexistent issue causesmore controversy than abortion. A person can hardly read a newspaper,turn on the television, or even have a conversation with a friend withoutthe topic coming up one way or another. This subject is the cause ofmany arguments and many violent protests. Best of friends can evenseem like the worst of enemies when talking about abortion; whether oneperson being strongly for pro-choice, feeling that a woman has the rightto choose, to the other being pro-life, believing abortion is murder. Thetwo sides are very separated and very often refuse to finding a middlecourse with each other. Many people, including myself, have their own Abortion is a topic that is nothing new to society. For many, manyyears abortion has existed, it was just not readily available. In earlier yearseach state had the responsibility of deciding when and if abortion waslegal. (Guernsey). They were also quick to point out that thefetus's lungs are not fully developed; therefore, it cannot scream(Forhock). Anumber of bills have been voted on by a number of state legislatures thatwould make abortion illegal, except in the cases of incest, rape, ormedical emergency. Theybelieve that abortion is murder and go against all basic values, principles,and morals. In the 1989 case of Webster verses Reproductive Health Services, theSupreme Court ruled that abortions could not be made by publicemployees or funded by the tax payers. When those trained in the respective disciplines of medicine, philosophy,and theology are unable to arrive at any consensus, the judiciary, at thispoint. One of the most discussed issues is the point at which a fetus inconsidered a life. If they feelthat it is murder, how can it be justified in certain circumstances? Murder ismurder; it does not matter which circumstance occurs. Pro-life supporters are against the idea of abortion. If a woman does not wantto have the baby, there are other options than abortion. One final issue on abortion is morality, and whether it is moral or notto have an abortion. predicts, "The dilemma will be unbearable, some willcommit suicide, some will gouge themselves with coat hangers, some willswallow poison. Many people felt that the controversy was over after the Roeverses Wade decision and the court cases preceding it. Legal or illegal, women whowant or need an abortion bad enough will find ways to get the abortion.
