             Athletics is perhaps the most competitive field for men and women to enter into without any education. Pretty much anyone who can run faster... jump higher... and throw harder can make it- right? As we all very well know the actual chance that each aspiring athlete has to make it in the sports competition world is about a half a percent; and even then that's just looking at those who make it into amateurs- not the pros.
             So what is it that gives some people the "edge" that they need to make it in this business? Extra practice- too time consuming; better diet- maybe but is it enough? In one simple word that edge can be summed up- supplements.
             Within the following paragraphs we will be discussing supplements, and they will be divided up in two categories. The first will cover illegal dietary/ metabolic supplements, known as anabolic steroids. Second, other supplements such as herbs and legal laboratory developed substances will be examined. Supplements can be a very helpful addition to anyone's daily workout routine in order to enhance performance; however, when it comes to picking the right one for you, the decision must be one made on the foundation of proper, and well researched knowledge.
             First, and foremost, the most dangerous and underestimated of all supplements, both legal and illegal, are steroids. There are a variety of drugs available that can be categorized as anabolic steroids. However, these typically can not be obtained without a doctor's prescription. Although this may be true in the United States, in other countries, steroids and drugs of that type are legal. Therefore, when one has access to the Internet it is possible to order steroids from over-seas pharmacies and other so called "black market" dealers.
