Alice grew up in a white, upper class, and privileged family. She studied lessons in History, English, Math, Etiquette, Science, and more. Alice spent all of her life learning how to be a proper young girl and how to conform to the standards of Victorian society. However, Alice is all of a sudden thrown into a new wonderland where everything she learned was no longer applicable. Most people would try to adapt to the standards of the new society, even if it is only temporary, but Alice does not do this. She does not agree with any of the norms in this Wonderland, and the inhabitants will not conform to the way of life that Alice once knew. Alice does not fit into this new world and she is not willing to make the necessary changes to do so. The society that Alice grew up in was an imperialistic one and she tries to carry this out in the book Alice in Wonderland. Because Alice in unsuccessful in her venture to conquer Wonderland, she becomes frustrated and throws the world into chaos.
The main reason that Alice did not conform to the new society is because they do not fit what she was taught. Alice appears to be a very well mannered little girl that grew up in a Victorian household.

Alice exhibits many instances of imperialism. Alice originally followed the rabbit out of curiosity and this would give her the opportunity to explore a new territory. The table was big and empty, but that doesn’t give anyone the right just to take it for him or herself. In most situations she reacts in a manner that follows the guidelines she has learned. This shows Alice not caring for the rights of people that live there; she is taking it for herself. Alice thinks this is absurd and she is puzzled. This type of thinking would cause Alice to not conform to the norms of Wonderland and to try to make them conform to hers. This history dates back for hundreds of years and the ideology was still prevalent in Alice’s time as well. She begins to throw a temper tantrum and ‘destroys’ Wonderland; this is Alice’s tragic loss. Alice is a stubborn little girl that grew up in a stubborn English society. One method of penetrating another society is to blend in first and “attack” from the inside. Most children have a very short temper and they are susceptible to throwing temper tantrums, which she does, at the end of the book. Since she is only seven years old she is unable to handle this loss and lets her rage overcome her sensibility.
